Mini London Marathon

Trials for a place in the Brent team for the Mini London Marathon are organised by Queen's Park Harriers and happen a few weeks before the event.

What is the Mini London Marathon?

A three mile race on the morning of the London Marathon for 11-17 year olds. The Mini London Marathon was launched in 1986 and the course covers the last three miles of the marathon route. Brent compete against teams from all over London in the Borough Challenge and against regional teams from across the UK. Anyone who was born or lives in Brent or attends a Brent school is eligible for the Brent team.

How do I enter my kid/s?

Trials usually take place at Gladstone parkrun. There is no limit to the number of times an athlete can submit a qualifying time, however there are a few steps to take to make sure your time is counted.

  • Your child will need to be registered with parkrun and bring their barcode to the event, otherwise their time will not be recorded and will not count towards mini marathon qualification. Don't worry, registration is easy and free. Details on how to do so can be found on the parkrun website.

  • After your child runs at any Gladstone parkrun in the trials period, please email us with their name, position and time so that it can be verified.

More information can be found on the Mini London Marathon website, including age categories. We very much hope that you will take part in the trials to be part of the Brent team and look forward to hearing from you.

Can I help out on the day?

We always need six team captains and a photographer! We are hoping that these roles will not be done by parents so that they can watch the race.

  • Photographer: Last year we were able to get a grandstand pass for our photographer so if you enjoy taking photos, this is a great opportunity for a top spot on marathon day. (if you are running for a big charity and can get a grandstand ticket for us to use early in the day, please let us know!)

  • Six group captainsWe need three male and three female captains to chaperone our six groups on the morning of the race. You will travel with the Brent team by coach and stay with your group until their race. Then take their baggage on the marathon shuttle bus and meet them at the finish on The Mall. There is a small amount of team admin once teams have been chosen. The event is finished by 10 am so if you are watching the marathon, you can get a great spot!

Interested in helping our Juniors experience a day they'll never forget? Get in touch if you would like to volunteer.
